This image emerged in my mind some years ago, so I drew it.
I had been thinking about the cross and what it symbolized. It certainly is a metaphor for perseverance in spite of suffering. It is about victimization of the innocent. It also represents determination, sacrifice, surrender, struggle, and the desire to work for justice in the face of incredible injustice, as well as abiding under threat.
The cross is also the intersection of the vertical and horizontal… the sacred and the secular… where they meet… in the very center of human struggle and suffering. It is persisting at the junction of life and death.
I called this The Narrow Way because how many of us are aware? How many of us will embrace this reality, our lot?
Because isn’t this where we are?
