I have friends in the UK who are terrified right now because of the way things are going.

I have friends in Australia who feel the same way.

I have friends and family in the USA who echo this same fear.

Watching the news sometimes it does feel like things are out of control.

Is there a god taking care of everything? Or is there a god not taking care of everything?

Or is there no god taking care of everything? Or is there no god not taking care of everything?

I’ve come to a very peaceful place where I live somewhere between these two extremes.

But I do know this: we are responsible for what happens.

“We are responsible” – totally agree. We may pray for miracles – but by definition, they are very rare.

So, I am glad we put money and time and brilliant minds into research that will lead to more cures for cancer, depression, certified mental disorders, a thousand diseases, and even global warming.

I am glad we do not wait for God to do these big things… or to even do the small things, like encouraging an old friend.

It is up to me to send that small encouraging email to my old friend.

I trust God, by all means. I believe that God exists. I pray for wisdom all the time.

But I also step up to the plate, and do my part.

A few of you will not like this one, but this is how one Lutheran pastor confronts what he sees as completely out of control. Hans Fiene has come up with a brand new Lutheran Satire episode: “A Christian and a Feminist Almost Agree on Stuff.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qa4eHTD1ZJA

how could an omnipotent god, an omniscient god lose control? isn’t that a contradiction in terms?
