how to become a feminist in one easy step

It doesn’t take much to be a feminist. Just be a decent human being and you’re there!

I was very moved by Anita Sarkeesian’s presentation on misogyny in the gaming industry. You can watch it here. She’s a woman who has been ruthlessly attacked for her critique of misogyny in our culture through her blog Feminist Frequency.

She just doesn’t stop, and I admire her for that.

There are still overt cases of misogyny at work. Obviously! But as usual when these are exposed the explicit becomes the implicit. It goes underground and becomes more sinister.

This is where the more courageous, incisive and resolute critique must occur.

I’m in!

Part of the problem with that “easy step” is that most people think they are decent people and different people have different concepts of “decency.” There are plenty of self-styled decent people who think that gaslighting either doesn’t exist or is a justifiable behavior. There are people who think that any complaint or criticism that a woman makes is just her being “hypersensitive.” In fact, many such people get upset because “hypersensitive” women are suggesting that maybe those people aren’t quite as decent as they perceive themselves to be.

You wouldn’t think this would be a controversial idea.
