What does God have to do with Yoga Pants?

Perhaps I should have said “your god and yoga pants”, because the truth is that everyone takes their god and adjusts it to fit themselves.

Our god remarkably resembles the god we want.

This cartoon was inspired by a friend’s reflection on the whole Christian modesty and purity movement’s concern for yoga pants.

I don’t wear yoga pants, so you can relax.

  1. David, I so appreciate you keeping me up on common culture.
I had to look this up.
“Yoga” has taken on such a weird notion in the West as compared to how it is used in Hinduism.
Almost like I could imagine “Prayer” being turned into therapeutic eyelid exercises outside of the West.

You are right, “god” is just a term to mean “what I value and what I want to hold up as a flag” — it will always fit perfect to your ass.

  2. Do people have misconceptions about God? Sure, and those misconceptions are as malleable as a pair of yoga pants. But that doesn’t mean God is subject to our attempts to create him in our chosen image, of course.

    Cheers,
    Tim

P.S. If I could rock yoga pants like the guy pictured on this post, I’d wear them all the time.

  3. It’s like what you said about there being 7+billions different religions….one for each of us. No matter what God really looks like…we all see Him differently because it’s a one on one relationship. Just like no one else can see life through our eyes, and no one can completely understand how we feel about our situations because we’ve all had unique experiences and unique upbringings, no one will see God just like we do.

  4. my priest friend Tom, he said that you can safely assume you’ve created God in your own image when it turns out that God hates all the same people you do.)” Anne Lamott
