freebie friday: dropout book & cartoon

Welcome to today’s FREEBIE FRIDAY! Today I’m giving away a book and a cartoon print. The book is by former pastor Bill Huffhine, called “Confessions of a Christian Dropout”. It will be personally signed by Bill. Thanks Bill for not only writing this book, but for your generous offer.

And I’m giving away a free fine art print of this cartoon to accompany the book, simply because “dropout” seems to be a theme:

Here’s all you have to do to enter the contest:

  2. Neal Taylor says:

Hey David! Love to win – do you send to Australia?! LOL Blessings mate!

  3. Ryan Jones says:

Dave, I’m new to your blog, but I love your cartoons. You have a great grasp of the inherent comedy from hipocrasy, keep up the good work!!

  4. Sugar says:

    Dropout from Church? What’s that?
I obviously left my church and didn’t answer the calls from my pastor and other church members who perhaps wanted to know why and what I was doing after that. It’s none of their business. Is it wicked not to care about their feelings? Could be. I have no regrets right now. Thank God now I’m free.

  5. Mr. Talking Ruler says:

Reminds me of a James Bond villain… are there sharks underneath? I am very thankful my pastor is not like that… In fact, now would probably be a good time to tell her that… Thanks for putting that in my head ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Marci says:

This looks like a great book. I would Love to win this one! Thanks for the opportunity.

  7. cindy says:

  9. Matt Oxley says:

I’d be glad to have both or either.

  10. Cutch McAtee says:

I copy and re-post your stuff regularly on Facebook and share with my Bible study groups as well. We speak with the same voice. While I have recently been ordained by the United Church of Christ and pastor a small Disciples of Christ church in Bible-Belt West Virginia (for the princely sum of $25/week), I swim around the edges of the church: raising questions, exploring scripture from a critical perspective, and exposing the hypocrisy. While my ultra-spiritual friends pray for my return to their version of “The Truth” I escaped during seminary (amazing what an education does), I laugh and respond with: “Why would I want to go back into that bondage?” And yet I agree that it IS true … the truth shall set you free! Keep telling the truth.

  11. Brenda says:

That is an awesome cartoon and the book looks great, too. I like the reminder that God is so much bigger and accessible outside of our church experiences. Or maybe “church” IS experiencing God and we have been misusing the term?

  12. Sally says:

I would love to have the cartoon. Dropout that is me. The book seems just what I need to read right now. Thank you for the giveaway.

  13. LeShea says:

I fear we have lost the ability for discourse. Either we scream our opinions without listening to other’s or we keep them to ourselves, not wanting to disagree. What happened to sharing, comparing, persuasion, and agreeing to disagree after listening to and understanding one another?

  14. Ben Ramsdale says:

Hey. Are we supposed to comment on this one for this book cos the link goes to the AsboJesus one…

Anyways. I would love to win this book as I feel like a Christian Drop-Out. I have ceased attending Sunday Morning Church for similar reasons as the guy in your cartoon. I would love to read someone else’s journey from Religion to God’s real love.

    Hope you’re well!

  51. David, This cartoon is funny! It should be hanging on the wall behind every head dude’s desk. Ok…but when it is true it is kind of sad. That too is kind of funny….oh, I am caught in a circle! I will quit commenting except that both books mentioned sound intriguing.

Just commenting here for the freebie Friday of Rahab’s cord. I don’t know what it is about that one it just draws my eye whenever it’s on the page.

  57. Any freebies ever make it across the Atlantic David?

We’ve a major economic downturn over here!

Love Rahab – sorry better put it another way – nice art work David!

  58. Lynette Hendricks says:

I like the story of Rahab too – another reminder that God uses all of us.

  59. yvette assem says:

Aww, Rahab! She embodied what women during very patriarchal times in the Hebrew bible had to do for survival. Its as if she said you raped me and I turned it into making a living. My shedding of innocent blood still did not take away the shame nor did it disgrace me…for you kept coming back. Your definition of me did not take away my being, my spirit or cause me to loose my righteous mind!

  60. LoveGracePeace says:

It seems there is a lack of, to use your words, “Courageous. Outspoken. Compassionate. Fierce. Definitely a fighter. Rahab.” Christians. What happened to the committed, spirit-filled children of God? Did they all become Republicans?
