  1. You could’ve drawn ‘the world’, and ‘us’ right there alongside the devil, trying to put down Jesus.

Most of the time, it wouyld appear that Jesus is losing (or has lost).

That’s why we walk by faith…and not by sight.

  2. Steve,

If “the world” and “us” were drawn on the side of Jesus, opposing the devil, would it make a difference by faith, or by sight?

  3. This world does not appear that God is in control. But He is, nonetheless. It is just not apparent.

So we trust that He is (faith), instead of what we see.

  4. “This world does not appear that God is in control.”

Another line my inner atheist might say, though he’d follow with the thought, “Why question appearances?”

  5. I question appearances all the time.

Why do kids die of cancer? Why do families get wiped out by drunk drivers? Why do nations attack other nations and terrorists kill and mame people including innocent children?

If God is so loving, why does He let these things happen?

I have to trust in His Word that He does care and that He will make all things New one Day. And that at the cross He has forgiven us and paid the price for all of our complicity in this often chaotic world.

  6. Steve,

I have asked those very same questions, and have likewise realized that these questions, and the reality behind them, do not point to a loving God. In reading the Bible, I sometimes have a hard time seeing how it does, either. When neither God’s self-revelation through creation nor through scripture actually reveal a God, I find it difficult to distinguish faith from imagination and belief from wishful thinking.

  7. Why do we blame God for our sins? God gave us freewill, we abuse it.

  8. I think of that battle as more of a MMA or UFC kind of thing (a little more down and dirty).
Kind of like this clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wGlI2uyFKI

  9. So, who set up the arm-wrestling championship in the first place?

Totally reminds me of the old South Park episode where Damien challenges Jesus to fight his father, Satan. The townsfolk look at the stats (320-pound Satan with sexy Doom-shorts vs 135-pound Jesus in robe) and place all their bets on Satan.

The fight begins, Jesus lands a feeble, uncomfortable jab and Satan takes a dive.

Satan was the only person to bet on Jesus winning, and so takes all the town’s money.

Oh, that Satan. You have to be so super careful because even his tricks have tricks!

For shame, townsfolk of South Park! Jesus always wins! Always gamble on Jesus!

  10. Daniel,

Where did your question come from? I don’t see any context for it.
