  1. Yep. Born to die. But, to be raised again, also.

  2. Sacrificial — and if Jesus was both fully God and fully human that means there must have been a wide variety of thoughts and emotions accompanying the approach of the cross.

  3. Wonder if he got frustrated like the rest of us when he didn’t find the pieces he was looking for.

  4. Interesting! I have used that term “lego” god several times on here, and I am so glad you finally put up a picture of the guy. Joseph and Mary look so sad as they look upon the fellow who is masqueading as their son.

  5. Logos of Lego?

  6. ann b: that would’ve been a good title: “In the beginning was the legos”.

  7. fishon…you mean to say he was only pretending to be human?

———–No, fif. I am saying that the person Joseph and Mary are looking at building the cross is an imposter, and their sad look says to me, they know it. They know their son, and this guy ain’t him. This phoney somehow slipped in just like so many try to slip in today, trying to make a ‘lego’ god look like the real Jesus. Joseph and Mary would’t recognize todays fakes either. They know the real deal.

You have your take on it–I have mine.

  9. Fishon said ‘masquerading as their son’

Masquerading? According to the dictionary this means ‘a false show or pretense’. I hardly think so. Mary and Joseph were fully aware of who He was, though most of the time when he was little I am sure they forgot or didn’t want to think about it.

Did they have an awful forboding about what lay ahead for their son? Or were they just dismayed that their small son would be building such a horrible instrument of torture? I wonder!

———-Ann, I think you misunderstand what I said and/or MY take on the cartoon.
I am saying that the person as seen in the cartoon as Jesus is someone who has slipped in and pretending/masquerading, and isn’t Jesus at all. Maybe it is bob, or joe, or …, but he is NOT Jesus.

And for me, their forboding, as you put it, has come upon them because they realize the one building the cross is not their son. That is my view of the cartoon. Others, I am sure, have different interpretations.

  11. Fishon,

Sorry I did misunderstand your ‘take’ on the cartoon! Now I am left wondering why you think ‘He is NOT Jesus’?

  12. I think your “next” cartoon should have him picking his nose and eating eat. Afterall Jesus was 100% human. Right fishon. ;)

———–For quite some time, I have accused people on this blog of making a “lego” god of their own. I now see NP portraying a ??? making a lego cross. For me, now remember, I said for me, not anyone else who has viewed the cartoon, this cartoon makes me think of all those times. So I see a sad Joseph and Mary looking at another imposter building their own god, cross, religion.

  14. tfort,
He even pooped his pants and had runny noses.
And the point of your comment was——-oh, I know, you are trying to get under my skin.
You have to do better than that.

  15. I appreciate the look on the parents’ faces. It can be so easy to take the cross for granted and not see the horror and tragedy in the symbol.

  16. Since the intent of this cartoon is known to David, I will have to wait till he explains it to me. I am not sure if Mary and Joseph are sad or not. That look may be one of adoration. I have no idea how fishon came to his conclusion, the child being an impostor, but I guess without knowing what David meant to say, we are left to our own imaginations, preconceptions, prejudices, and/or blinders

  17. Bob,

I might argue that once a cartoon is drawn or a book is written, then the creator has as much and as little position to say what their creation really means than any other viewer. Any artist can state their intent, but is the meaning in the intent of the artist, or the mind of the viewer?

  18. That’s one big baby!

  19. ‘Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder as the milkmaid said when she kissed the cow!’

  20. No, David, can’t be. He doesn’t look like the one hanging on the wall behind the pulpit I preach from. Just can’t be.——–Man, I hate that picture–but some of um love it. O well.

  21. I knew it was Jesus…I just didn’t know he was so tall ;-)

  22. Stubbie shorts…. terrible fashion sense young fella.. Did your mum dress you!

  23. He has his Father’s eyes.
