Well, David, once again you seem to capture my thinking! Don’t know how you do it!! We must be of like minds & we’ve never met! Thanks so much. Hope 2010 has wonderous blessings for you & those you hold dear.

As succinct as this is, it’s brilliant. No matter how conservative or liberal we may be, it’s all a matter of interpretation. Homosexuality, women in ministry, baptism, the nature of the presence of Christ in his Supper, evolution vs. intelligent design, miracles, yada, yada . . . hermeneutics is the REAL issue, not whether we “believe the Bible.”

Let me add to those New Year’s blessings. Actually, David, you ARE a blessing.

jeremiah 33:3 and blessings to you for 2010. keep asking those questions out loud, sometimes you give voice to others’ fears and doubts and questions. it seems to me that God can handle heart-felt honesty. i do love Him dearly, and more and more, even though the path gets scarier and less certain sometimes. maybe that is faith, giving up the right to be certain.

If it was not true, it would not be funny. And it is very funny…….

Oh, bravo. Painfully true, though we might argue (discuss?) as to what makes up “my interpretation”.

The ultimate question…..does my interpretation and the way I live it out please God? As desciples we need to take the time every day to ask Him.

How about…my beliefs plus random scriptures taken out of context to support them equals my theology

What a thought provoking formula — no matter how gracious, objective, orthodox, open-minded, fairminded you think you are — it still is always “my interpretation”. One always has to walk in another person’s shoes to “get” how they interpret the bible and just the plain mystery of life.

I’m going to keep this one. It gets right to the point.

Of course, the only way that works mathematically is if the Bible = 0

    ah! context is key…

bob jumped the ashcan and his coffeegrounds remained undisturbed. after drooling all night Lake Titicaca sent out for kipper snacks…

for by grace are you saved through faith and that not of yourself it is the gift of God, not of works lest anyone should boast–for we are his workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works…

interpret the above paragraph in light of Pauline, Petrine, Jacobian, Johannine and Christ-ine corpus, [or Isaianic]-any clarity? any knowable doctrine? any clear indication of justification by faith standing as the kernel of the Good News? or is paragraph 1 more clear?

“you have heard it said” “but I say to you”

    eh? so what…
