At my school they’d be asking for the water to be chaned to wine – or something stronger.

And don’t we get the same sort of prayer requests? People think of God as a wizard in the sky who can wave His magic wand and make everything all better…without us having to do a thing, of course!
Jesus used to be portrayed in early Christian iconography as a wizard with a magic wand. Turning one thing into another is a potent symbol of our own inner transformation – turning led into gold, water into wine.
It was kind of fun that he didn’t just create a bit more – remember they’d already drunk all that was there – but he created gallons and gallons more, a ridiculous abundance.
