“This IS my body…broken, and given…for you.”

He tells us to eat of His body, and drink of His blood.

You got a problem wit dat?!

Tell Him, He’s the One that commanded that we do it.

Aren’t they going in the wrong direction?

I don’t think I get this one. Are they doing some sort of line-dancing? Their toes look like that. And why are they blindfolded? And they all seem to be men. That looks like poppy-seed bread..mm

They aren’t eating it, Steve – they’re just carrying it.

I think the point is that they’re satisfied with just a tiny piece and they’re blind to the fact that there’s more. They’re also blind to the fact that there are other people with their own piece. They’re also blind to the fact that they’re walking the wrong way. Essentially, they’re happy and content just trying to “hold on to their little piece of God.”

Did I get it right, np?

It reminds me of that metaphor with 3 blind men and an elephant. You know, the one where each blind man is touching a different part and saying to the others, “no, that’s not what an elephant is like. It’s like this…”

Thanks Fred. I think I got a bit confused by the idea of it being bread.

    That’s a Sufi story, Mark.

I have a strange feeling tonight, like I’m in love but I don’t know who with.

I interpreted it like Fred. And, it also reminded me of the blind men and the elephant story.

Everyone has, what they think is, God. They are happy but blind to the fact that they only have a small piece of God. I missed the point that they are walking away. I like that. We take what we want, what fills our need, and walk away, leaving the biggest part of God behind.

I really like this one, it hits home personally.

I think God is a big chocolate chip cookie.

I think there’s a huge stigma going around institutional Christianity that does its best to classify God. I think one of the biggest reasons churches are shrinking so much, is because people think that coming to church to “get to know God” means that eventually, we’ll know Him, and know the end of Him. I think it makes it a whole lot less interesting, which is one of many reasons people don’t want to come. Because it turns into just another place filled with people acting like they know something that you don’t, but really, they don’t know any more than you do. They’re just doing their best to box it up and pretend like they do.

Am I even making any sense? I’m going to bed.

Yes you made sense. Too many people offering glib answers in the language of religious cliche.

Also, too much talk and not enough contemplation. Reminds me of Forster’s comment in ‘A Passage to India’, ‘Poor little talkative Christianity’. I was at a service today where church leader was suggesting to his hyped up flock of charismatics that they try being silent. They just couldn’t do it! In the end I think he gave up. They were like a room full of High School kids – the concept of silence was beyond their comprehension.
