True…… most times we think we are reacting and becoming free we need to check ourselves to see that we don’t repeat the tyranny that we react against…..
Grace. That would be a good idea…
Most movements that start off that way end up being even more authoritarian.
I don’t like the look of these new churches springing up that go on about ‘developing your full potential.’ It’s just more pressure.
Jesus is the Great Shepherd.
Shepherds keep their flock together for safety, that they might not get spread too far flung and become easy prey for wolves.
He always gives us freedom, but He always brings us back to the pen and then He guards the gate.
I assume the guy standing away from the others–on his own turf–doing all the speaking is the pastor.
And I wonder if the pastor is more upset by the fact getting a sheep back in line is hard work or because now all eyes are on the “free” one instead of on him…or maybe it’s because some “little” lamb just proved that what the pastor says and what the pastor does do not line up.
Poor guy! Maybe he should step toward the group and let the other guy speak for awhile. That could be an interesting turn of events…
Reminds me of that scene in “The Life of Brian”: everyone saying in unison, “I am unique,” and then one guy at the back piping up, “I’m not!”
I’m no good in groups because I always feel t he need to redress the balance by emphasizing what is being ignored – thus I go against the main ethos of the group. Kind of like St Paul’s ‘all things to all men’ but the opposite. Some people might see that as just me being a contrary person, but I see it as a vocation.
Doesn’t the one who got away look really happy and joyful..?!
Yeah, attention seeker! That’d be me.
