As I walked out one morning for pleasure,
I met a cowpuncher a jogging along;
His hat was throwed back and his spurs was a jingling,
And as he advanced he was singing this song.
(Chorus)
Yippee Ti Yi Yo, get along little dogies
It’s your misfortune and none of my own
Yippee Ti Yi Yo get along little dogies
For you know that Wyoming will soon be your home.
Early in the springtime we round up the dogies
Mark them and brand them and bob off their tails
Round up the horses and load the chuck wagon
Throw them little dogies right out on the trail.
In the evening we round in the dogies
As they are grazing from herd all around
You have no idea the trouble they give us
As we are holding them on the bed ground.
In the morning we throw off the bed ground
Aiming to graze them an hour or two
When they are full, you think you can drive them
On the trail, but damned if you do.
Some fellows go on the trail for pleasure,
But they have got this thing down wrong;
If it hadn’t been for these troublesome dogies,
I never would thought of writing this song.
could be my old church leadership on the horses… one deacon (let’s not limit our virtual beatings to just pastors) kept praying for 100 baptisms in one year; he even wanted to withhold raises from staff until we reached the 100 baptisms; I thought “Great, now our pastors are on commission.” Yet another reason in a list of many as to why I left the southern judgmental baptist church.
‘pastors on commission’…lol…we’re not just saved,we become valuable commodities….am reminded of Dylan’s line, “Ya know capitalism is above the law….it don’t count unless it sells”

What is a ‘dogie’? I remember having to sing this song after our teacher went on an exchange trip to America, but I don’t remember what she said a dogie was. Some kind of cow?
Of course ‘a long little doggie’ is a Dachsund.

Jesus. He’s what I’m believing in.
Keep on truckin’ David.
Why do I always have to be a t the wrong end of the horse.
I’m in the back row, 12th from the left…with the stuff on my shoe.
This made me smile, don’t know why. Then I read Steve Martin’s comment and now I will be giggling to myself all day.
Just Jill,
You wouldn’t be giggling if YOU had stepped in it!
The herd looks tired…..I wonder why?
