cartoon: illustration Friday… “Heirarchy”

heirarchy

I had a dream a few years ago where I saw this picture. Strong and ambitious men climbed incessantly to the top of the pyramid, the top of the heap, where they celebrated their success. But it was only temporary, because the hand of God inevitably swung through and wiped out those at the top. However, the ambitious struggle to the top wasn’t stopped, and the strong men again and again endeavored to climb to the top, initiating the same process over and over again.

I’m submitting this to this week’s Illustration Friday under the theme “Heirarchy”.

Check out my tees HERE. I’m growing my inventory all the time. And check out my art HERE.

Ha! Excellent! It reminds me of a couple of things. It made me think of a book that a friend gave me years ago called “Hope For The Flowers”.

It also reminded me of the movie “Antz” where the ants form the wrecking ball and what happens when the “neurotic-type Woody Allen” ant has his doubts about his life’s purpose. Have you seen it? Funny movie.

Aaaaahhhh! Poor guy! I’d hate to be him at the top!
Notice how it also gets lonely at the top!
    Great job!

The pursuit of power. Something that drives people…but ultimately drives them to destruction because that’s not what we were made for. Power is supposed to be a means to an end, not an end in itself.

reminds me of a pair of sculptures in the rather imposing marble-lined foyer of a towering office block in which I once worked. imagine bronze colour (not sure if actually made of bronze), a tower of torsos, arms and legs, clambering over one another to be the torso at the top. the metaphor was not lost on this [then] 22 year old law student as I shuffled in with the other corporate types every morning. couldn’t help but think the building manager had a sense of humour.

In the Kingdom, servants lead, leaders serve. Works really well.

That guy at the top is actually jumping (look how he lifts up his arms). He”s going to catch hold of the chain and swing with the ball, while everybody below him gets swept away.
So he will remain at the top, even though he has no pyramid to rest on.

Just like the credit crunch – the top dogs get bailed out, while the rest are swept away.
