Two mutually exclusive terms; “victorious christian”, and “no sin or suffering in his life”.

…another success story from the archives of GoodNu’sBody

I’ve never quite been sure what a “victorious Christian life” is. I’ve sure as heck never experienced it. My relationship with God undulates like one of those back roads in New Brunswick. ;-)

In THIS life, there is no peace, no rest, and no victory.

Unless, of course, one happens to be delusional.

Steve, do you not think that is a little negative? Surely, with God, in this life we find all three.

I understand that we should not pretend that suffering and sin do not exist, become paper thin in our honesty and our realism. But, realistically, in my life, I have known peace, I have known rest – and I have known God’s victory, for me.

Sad that a lot of church people think non-Christians don’t notice the shallowness. They come looking for real depth and, too often, we just give the the Potemkin Village.

We need to get over ourselves. Seriously. Starting with me.

“As long as we are here in this world we have to sin. This life is not a dwelling place of righteousness.” – Martin Luther

Dave: I love Luther where he wrote that we Christians are “simul justus et peccator”: at one and the same time, both saints and sinners (literally, both justified and sinful). No more realistic assessment of the Christian life has ever been written.

NP, I love this. I laughed out loud at work. It’s a great cartoon. I could weep.
Thank you so much for your internet ministry to us – I appreciate it, and your honesty, humanity and use of your artistic and intellectual gifts very much.

God bless you, and hope you are feeling better.

PS am not sure you think of it as a ministry to us… so hope that doesn’t make you feel pressure! I just appreciate that you share with us here, so it feels a bit like a virtual small group!
