I remember years ago when I was in the first flush of Christian zeal and part of a student group. We had just sang ‘Spirit of the Living God’ and the minister asked us ‘Do you realise what you have just sang and asked God to do?’
I wonder when we pray for forgiveness and review our actions in a church setting whether we should then have a prayer before we sing our worship songs: ‘Lord forgive us- we are going to sing this stuff and we have no intention of doing any of it.’?
Yes. I compare the pretty songs we sing as sort of candy-coated medication. It seems to be the only way most of us are willing to say the things that need to be said: if they go down easy.

Hah. I didn’t see the bottom text so when I saw it I thought it was Jesus leaving a note saying “I did it for you”. Personalizing it so to speak. Perception is a funny thing.
Ouch that hurts!

Thanks for making me think (yet again).

uggh
We don’t want to die.
That’s why He kills us off with His Word of Law…and in baptism (Romans 6).
So true!
Ain’t that the truth!
