David, I just started reading your blog about two weeks ago . . . what a breath of fresh air! Your candor, your willingness to be vulnerable, and your art (I love your cartoons!!) are a blessing indeed. I loved this one. How many churches, either deliberately or unwittingly, are proclaiming the message, “Come . . . and be like us”?
That’s not quite true — they only do that after you’ve been attending for a few weeks …

And if you actually make it inside, you might be shocked and awed to see the multitude of golden rings dangling at varying heights from the ceiling–none within reach from the ground. (Spinning golden hoops–so mesmerizingly other-worldly!)
And then when you see church members leaping through them “with the greatest of ease,” you start to wonder about the secrets behind the magic. (So astonishing!)
And then, when it’s your turn, and you end up on your ass with a cracked tailbone, you start asking what kind of pain killers these people are taking and if there are any side effects. (So thought-provoking!)
“Step right up, folks! It’s the greatest show on Earth!”

Actually…aren’t those hoops usually invisible? Pretty hard to do in a cartoon though…
