God tends not to speak to us other than in His Word (and sacraments)…other than that, if you hear Him…are you sure it’s Him and not last night’s pizza speaking?
God tends to speak to us through a burning bushes, jackasses, angels, dreams, pillars of fire, visions, other people, his creation……

Hey Steve Martin: I really don’t want to be rude but what religious dispensation/planet have you been living on for the last 40 years, I can just imagine God saying ” oh right, OK then…..” when he saw your post.
Whilst it would indeed be an excellent idea for NP to keep reading his Bible sometimes God chooses not to speak this way or we are in a place where we are not listening or maybe able to hear his voice. And that is a hard place to be in.
Many have written about it and wrestled with times like this, particularly if there is an ongoing crisis as well. It is an uncomfortable process that is ultimately good for us, maybe even a refining fire that purifies us, humbles us, even develops our relationship with God by showing us that we are, when it comes right down to it, nothing without Him. It’s about coming to the end of ourselves even though we have been there many times before.
There is a great book that I read a few years ago called “When Heaven Is Silent” by Ron Dunn – it would cost buttons on Amazon Marketplace. He also went through a real crisis but uncovered some refeshment that I think it would hit the spot that NP describes.
…..apparently,the other senses of the hearing impaired develop more acutely
Interesting…
