What exactly is wrong with big churches? It just means more are getting saved IF they are putting their trust in Christ alone through faith alone by grace alone.

Really? What makes you think that the increase in a single congregation is not due to recycled churchers?

Oh dear, I thought religious wars nowadays were only fought on subjects such as Windows versus Mac/Linux. But here we are, waging religious wars about church sizes.

On principle, I could be happy in a church of twenty or a church of a few thousand. It all depends on the other things that I look for in a Christian fellowship.

Is there any argument more tiring than the ‘optimal church size’ argument? I submit that there isn’t.

The Christian faith has never been that popular. When it is (large churches) one should objectively look at why all these people are there.

The size of a church is not important. Is God’s law and gospel faithfully being proclaimed? Are the sacraments offered freely? Are the sacaments rightly understood?

Or are these folks there for the the entertainment, programs, list of “Christian things” to do, etc.

If heavens population depending on your mentality then it would be a very sad lonely place. You ‘ll be surprised at just how many folk will be there. Especially critical folk like populate this forum. And yes I include me in the critical because I’m compelled to criticise your opinions!

I hardly ever, if ever, explain my cartoons. But doesn’t anybody get the irony of someone being crucified even being CONCERNED about church size, etc? Which, if we are to die daily, should say something about our present concern for church size, etc..

Great observation, np. It just goes to show you that the old Adam dies hard. We will not die…even when we are dying.

I beg to differ. I die daily. Do you know what that means?

    Dan,

I think so Dan. I die daily as well (as Luther said, I return to my baptism daily), but not because of anything I , or my old Adam, does or will do. It’s the Holy Spirit that leads us to repentance…we wouldn’t go there if it were up to us.

That’s what I meant by us not wanting to die. “Romans 3 ” No one seeks for God”

“No one is righteous, no not one.”

My point here, Dan, is that when it comes to our relationship with the living God…God pretty much has to begin it, nurture it or keep it going, and bring it to fruition.
