The tool that God uses to bring that rider down is His righteous Law.
When His law is preached in it’s fullness and harshness (“be perfect as your father in Heaven is perfect”…etc.), and not preaches as a tool to make you better, or more righteous, then it will break the legs of that ladder and knock that rider down.
Then the gospel can go to work and bring out those good things out of a person out of love, and not at the point of a gun.
