I realize God’s arms of mercy and grace are far-reaching and for that I am forever indebted. But I selfishly hope that this was NOT the criminal who later asked Jesus to “Remember me when you come into your Kingdom.” Eternity would be so nice without all the bottom-line, profit-hungry attitudes which permeate this earth.
You know, this is an issue that I wrestle with. How do you feel about anyone making money on God? A Christian bookstore? Christian jewelry? How do you feel about the stores and sites who use Christian symbols as a way of advertising?
I have a business, but have chosen never to use anything like that. Personally, I don’t ever want anyone to think I would “use” it to gain business.
We have a wildly popular jeweler in this area who designs all kinds of Christian jewelry. It costs about double the norm for sterling silver because his name and designs are so popular. So is he wrong to capitalize on Christian designs? Or is he doing right by using his talents to produce a God honoring product?
AB, what do you mean by the phrase “God honoring product” in regards to this person’s work? Is it because the designs are of things like fishes, crosses, etc instead of wizards, crystal balls and goblins (it’s close to Halloween so I guess that’s why I’m using those examples) I’m not sure I understand that phrase to be honest. Would you be so kind as to elaborate?
I mean that I think he designs them to be in honor to God. I do think that was his original and sincere plan in designing what he does. Yet when I see the inflated prices on his pieces now that he is so popular, something about it just bothers me.
AB,
I think I see where you’re coming from now. It’s not the subject matter of his work that is bothering you, but the fact that he’s making more and more money from it as his popularity grows.
Goes more towards people’s thoughts on money and the arts then.
Thanks for clarifying.
That is hilarious.

Sometimes you take my breath away. This one does.
Thanks

i miss you!
note my new blog address….
Definitely one of your top 3 cartoons of all time, or at least all the time up ’til now. Painfully true, sadly funny.
