so, I have this pastor who gets up in front of all of us and says, with some regularity and depending on the teach…
“you know folks, I haven’t figured everything out. I have kids I’m trying to do my best by and hope I’m not letting them down. I have issues that I deal with. I have concerns and doubts and am on this journey right along with you.” Now, I have always appreciated this man’s honesty and integrity.
I guess I am realizing I need to start appreciating his uniqueness as well. Seriously, are you pastors who admit their own humanity all that rare??
I make sure that the congregation know I am only human in our conversations during pastoral visitation, but I also thank God for a congregation who want nothing more than a human pastor. There are occasions though when I wonder if being too human could affect the way people look to the Pastor for help… its the old if he’s struggling what hope is there for us…but to be honest I have not come accross anyone who has ever aired that view. Mostly people are grateful for Pastors who admit their struggles.
