Well, just because Ingrid seems to need to get the last word in, check out her last conclusions here at Slice of Laodicea. Comments are closed. I find this conversation one of the most fascinating I’ve had in a long time. I can see that perhaps our most vivid difference is in the artistic world. Anyway, take a peek. I want to thank everyone for your comments. All of them interesting! I’ll be back tomorrow. Stay tuned. Goodnight!
If you like this post, or if you'd like to use it, consider buying me a beer.

As I wrote before, your blog is nothing short of BEAUTIFUL. I had to fight back tears when your “phone message” was displaying Stevie Wonder’s “I just called”. It’d been a while since I spoke with God like that. SOL is missing the point entirely.
The Banshee shrieks!
eeeek! eeeeek! waaaaaaaaaah!
It bothers me that this woman has such a problem with you.
Close mindedness bothers me.
Ignorance bothers me.
Yet I am tickled by her fear of the word naked. Correct me if I am wring, but didn’t God create us naked? Clothes didn’t become part of the plan until after “the fall.”
So to her, I say, “naked naked naked.”
But of course, she probably sleeps in footed pajamas because showing the skin is sinful.
This woman is so much like my mother it’s scary. She has read every expose ever written. I showed her my blog and she told me I was too ecumenical. Yes, apparently it IS a bad thing. It leads to the one world church, which leads to the antichrist – and we all know where THAT particular slippery slope ends up!
I have no idea what she would say if I talked to her about the naked pastor who uses nude photography and *gasp* drinks alcohol and *double-gasp* smokes! When I drink wine she looks at me like I’m injecting heroin, and gives me sermonettes and book excerpts by David Wilkerson.
Judgementalism is all the same. It’s not going away. We just get to listen to the rants and wait until Jesus comes back to save us all from the daggers. Or ignore them, and stop reading Slice. Or laugh.
Doubly jealous my friend.
Have a beer on me for the whole SOL thing. Handled as I would have expected from you. No venom for the venom. Thanks for showing to me at least, that we are on the right track.
sleep well o pastor friend.
“if I post a swastika on my blog and set up a church, you’d be justified in judging me without attending first.”
it is my view that a myriad swastikas are up on that blog.
“Jesus would hang out with low life, too!”
that’s clearly a childrens telly translation.
have a ‘carnal’ and ’sensual’ sleep… you deserve it.
Come on folks, give her a break.
That lady is living by her gospel and exercising her spiritual gift.
Her gospel:
Come to Jesus, sit under my teaching, and henceforth you will always be right.
Her spiritual gift: being right at all times.
How wonderful that she can share that gift with the rest of the body of Christ.
(\Satire off\)
I had come across that second slice a bit ago and had posted the link in your other comments. This entire thing has left me shell shocked.
When I think of the judgement I had experienced at the hands of Christians and the rejection that followed…. I remember that what God me through it initially is knowing that, they were doing what they believed to be the right thing.
I think that is also true here. They are doing what they believe to be right. While the packaging with which they deliver their message may need some love and grace applied.. in their hearts they believe they are following God in this.
Maybe through my own wounds I have somehow grown in some areas of the fruit of the Spirit.. not sure. Because while I thot that I would lash out at them and defend my pastor and my friend. I find myself feeling utterly sad for them. Praying “Father forgive them for they know not what they do”. I’ve concluded that they do NOT know naked pastor at all and therefore their words and judgements are not worth listening to.
We are all family in Christ. Think of your own family, surely you don’t all see eye to eye or agree completely with each other’s way of living out your life… but you love and accept each other because you are family. It’s not about excusing sin… ya’ll can’t even see each other’s sin… because first we have to see our own. And well for me, that takes up so much time… that there’s no time left to see someone else’s. At least this is what I am learning.
May God bless us all BIG today and shower down His mercy on us.
thanks joni
I have yet to see any images on this site that are offensively nude or sexual.
Ingrid misses the point about being naked. Steven above made a good point about the Fall. We have to allow Christ to be our covering – to clothe us with Himself.
I think one day we’ll be shocked to find that some people who we thought were part of the family of God were never part of His family. They had faith in something else – not Christ.
Joni made a good point that possibly these people think they are doing the right thing or what they were taught. I don’t think God will excuse well meaning behaviour.
i hope you’re wrong rod and god does excuse well meaning behaviour, or i’m totally stuffed!
She is quite interesting to say the least – I found her tone a little turned down this time and maybe she is open to convo – would be nice to think anyways. But her main rant about this site is the ‘nudity and it’s relation to sensuality’…which is like never blogged about anyways. Oh there is a artsy pic here and there but sensuality is very rarely mentioned – and never in the cartoons. But she is making a judgment call about your site – of this I am sure (and about you as a pastor – and about us as people that blog with you) – which I find kind of sad she cannot discern.
Wow. She sounds mad. Why is she getting so worked up? Something rubbing the wrong way? Maybe she should find out what. Maybe her “God-given” opinions will change.
I personally find it odd how she rants against your use of the word ‘naked.’ Why does it bother her so much anyways?
Hello there,
I’ve been skimming through the charges against you made by the Slice lady, who I think is the 21st century’s answer to the SNL church lady.(She really should change her hair-do to avoid some of the comparison.)
Firstly, I will admit that I am as about as fundy as you can get. I believe in the “true truth” of the Word and I believe it can be interpreted with confidence, but only with the Holy Spirit’s guidance. I know my confidence in the Truth of the Word as exponentially increased under the Holy Spirit’s direction this past year.
Anyhow, I believe the emergent church faction has some legitimate beefs with organized religion today, but I also believe that it is mostly in error. I often agree with some of Ingrid and Ken’s articles, however I would state them differently.
But after looking over your site, I can’t find anything really objectionable at all, except maybe the semi-barechested pics, but yet they were artsy. Well, I’m conflicted, but that’s not the issue. It really irritates me when there is real theological error going on and could be meaningfully discussed, but all these people hype about is the word “naked” or “nudes”. It seems to me that they are appealing to the base and/or gut reactions of their readers and not you.
One thing I saw on the Slice once that really creeped me out was an article on modesty, suggesting that girls put on a fashion show for their father so that he could approve what they wearing. Now I believe the man is the master of his home, but I believe that’s a mother’s duty to monitor for modesty. For one thing, my husband doesn’t notice details like that, for another, I think that’s just plain freaky for a man to be checking his daughter’s hemlines before she goes anywhere.
I also dislike her closed comments policy, I’m sure if I posted the above blurb, she’d censor it, even though I’m just as Bible-thumping as the next indy fundy girl.
Yes, Ingrid needs to look up naked in the dictionary and check the alternate meanings. She obviously get a rush from rebuking heretics, which is something I would be for in the right instance, but using the word “naked” and artsy pics? Give me a break.
