Something similar to people who stick “in the name of Jesus” after everything. They think the words have a magical purpose. There’s far more to “in the name of Jesus” than merely using the words.

Hi. Just wanted to say I’ve been reading your blog off and on for a bit now and enjoy your honesty. Also love the path of grace you’re committed too. I think I’ve actually been to your church once, over ten years ago now. My husband and I hope to be back in the maritimes church planting soon (soon is a relative term lol) anywhere from next month, to next year or in 5 years …. Anyway, we’ll be praying for you, your church and your family. May he pour out more and more grace and freedom on you all!

And for a different audience: “A Study showed that…”
is pretty much used the same way.

yes sadly enough, sometimes it’s a segway into a controlling or manipulative statement or comment. and naively as christians, some of us, cling to those things because our desire to hear from Him and know Him is so deep. the amount of coersion and abuse that can go on all with a simple, “the Lord said,” “God wants me to tell you” etc.
