This is a watercolour painting I did that captures the mood I often feel on such nights. Actually, being outside at night, sometimes smoking my pipe, with the full moon and stars and maybe some clouds… these are mystical moments for me. This is when I feel full of and surrounded by The Benediction. Such times always help me gain perspective.
Perhaps it is because I just take my eyes, at least for a moment, off of my troubles. I look up at infinity through the clearing. I can actually feel my soul sigh.
Everything will be alright. That’s what I always come away from these times with.

My name is David Hayward, and I am the nakedpastor. I am a graffiti artist on the walls of religion.

I miss the night time sky. There is so much light pollution in Ottawa… so different from semi-rural NS where I grew up, or even more so in NB, where the stars just leap out at you at night. Wave to them for me.
This painting made my soul sigh. It is very beautiful.
thanks rhonda. thanks everyone!
Love it! I do the same and feel the same!
I really love this one, David. And I have the same awed reaction to the sky.
David, thank you for “Look Up.” You and all these posters are like me in our love of connection with the night skies…
@Nancy,
You’re in Ottawa? And from the east coast? Me too!
The Benediction I like that.
Where exactly is up?
Can you really feel the moon and smoke (or ingest poisons into your lungs) at the same time?
Perhaps the very fact that you unconsciously “need”, or are addicted to the self-destructive habit of smoking, is a confession that you are afraid of considering anything with unguarded feeling?
When and where did you taste and sniff the moon, or feel it resting gently resting on the small of your back?
