cartoon: money

money

I’m not against money. Money is good. Wealth in itself isn’t a bad thing. Looking at it from a distance. I love business, the marketplace, entrepreneurship, all that stuff. I’m fascinated by it and, in fact, am attempting to build a business around my art. You can see my online art-gallery on etsy here. But man, can money ever take over! The lack of it or the possession of it. The overwhelming and total dominating power that money can have motivated this cartoon.

So many other things that can, if we let them, take the place of God.

Im just getting into my ‘bling bling’ phase in life -having money and buying all kinds of things and taking all kinds of trips. I think I see money as a way of (a) having fun (b) taking care of my home and (c) ability to help others when needed. I would say money for me hasnt been a big focus of my life – but now that I have some – can’t say it’s the worst thing thats happened to me.

We can (and do) make just about anything into idols to be worshipped.

Money is not a problem for me, since I have none.

awesome societyvs. steve: i don’t have any either, but it can still have power over my life by me longing for it. you know? just having money doesn’t give it power. the lack of it can be just as dominating.

I know exactly what you mean, David. In reality, I too have a problem with it (the lack of it) from time to time.

Living within or even below our means has helped my husband and I by not allowing money to have that power over us. We don’t earn much, but we found that by eliminating the use/misuse of credit cards, we no longer have to worry about how to pay those bills. And when we have to save and then pay cash for an experience or an item, it makes it that much more special.

There are other things besides money that also gives us security and makes us dependent upon them such as living in our home country and knowing the language so you can work. As well as being near family and church friends to give a helping hand. Take away these things as missionaries sometimes find themselves and then you have to learn how to be totally dependent on God alone. Isaiah 40:30-31 and Phil 4:6,19 come alive super charged. Without Him to sustain you body, soul and spirit is disastrous. With him it is glorious.

That gets the point across in 59 seconds less than the one-minute movie “Welcome To The Neighborhood” (You can grab it from the Downloads page of my site.)

I like the line…Use money to love people, not use people to love money.
