Douglas Coupland, in his excellent book, Life After God, particularly in a chapter entitled, “In The Desert”, writes:
The radio stations all seemed to be talking about Jesus nonstop, and it seemed to be this crazy orgy of projection, with everyone projecting onto Jesus the antidotes to the things that had done wrong in their own lives. He is Love. He is Forgiveness. he is Compassion. He is a Wise Career Decision. He is a Child Who Loves Me.

My name is David Hayward, and I am the nakedpastor. I am a graffiti artist on the walls of religion.

He is the I Am! How can humanity define an indescribable God? The alternative is to be silent. But I suspect God would rather see toddling steps toward praise than no movement at all. (There I go with that “Father” comparison again…)
Hmm.. making God into our image. Yeah, we do that. And I agree with ttm that He would probably rather have that than nothing. At least it’s an attempt to know Him.
I found your site via Think Christian. I really dig some of the thing you’re working out here. And I love “Life After God.” I really got into “Generation X” when it was first published and I had these crazy aspirations of being an artist and living in a loft in Paris. Fortunately, God rescued me from my self-obsession.
Anyway, I just wanted to pass on my blessings and thanks for a great site.
