cross-less good news

Walter Brueggemann, a theologian who writes prophetically about the need for the prophetic in the world and church today, writes:

In the Christian tradition, having been co-opted by the king, we are tempted to legitimate the denial by offering cross-less good news and a future well-being without a present anguish.

Am reading “The Prophetic Imagination” right now… Brueggemann is worth the effort it takes to read him – he’s changed the way I think about a lot of things re: church and the world.

I found “The Prophetic Imagination” quite astounding – in particular the whole conversation around the remnant.
